👟 NUMBERS, WITH CONTEXT

Get to know your steps.

Learn what a step count can tell you, what it leaves out, and how to use it without chasing perfection.

Give each measurement its own job

A daily step total describes recorded steps during a day. A session duration describes a particular time window. Distance and heart rate are different measurements again. Before comparing screens, check the label, date, unit, and source.

Build a consistent observation habit

Choose the display you normally record, note whether the device was carried or worn, and label major changes in your setup. These notes cannot correct every measurement issue, but they preserve context that an attractive graph may not show.

Do not add every source together

A phone app may organize information from more than one device or service. Read the manufacturer's current documentation before changing source settings or manually adding totals. The troubleshooting article below links to Apple's explanation of how Health organizes contributing sources.

More data is not always the next step

A simple diary can include a route and a sentence about the outing. Choose the information that answers your question. You do not have to record every metric, publish your results, or buy a new wearable to plan a suitable walk.

About the example dashboard

The homepage dashboard is a visual explanation only. Its steps, minutes, heart-rate value, and bars are not live data, recommended targets, or measurements from a connected account. WalkAPI.com™ does not collect your activity record.
